It takes a special kind of scumbag to steal a 101-year-old patient’s credit card and that scumbag is Adrienne Stagner, 28, who was arrested on Thursday night and charged with 31 counts of identity theft after she stole the credit card of the woman she was suppose to be caring for and spent $4,000.

Stagner told police that she bought gas for her friends (how nice of her), clothing for herself and some illegal drugs. Among her purchases were methamphetamines and marijuana which were purchased by taking cash out at ATM’s using the credit cards cash advance option.

The theft was discovered by the victims grandson who reported the thievery to police at 2pm with an arrest occurring at 8pm. By the time Stagner was arrested she had used the card 19 times for cash advances in a one month period...more…

Illinois Man Missing Since 1979 is Found Working in Las Vegas

An Illinois man who was declared legally dead after he went missing in 1979 has been found working as a bookie in Las Vegas, Nevada, authorities said Friday, MyFoxChicago.com reports.

Arthur Gerald Jones, 72, was arrested July 19 and charged with four felony charges of identity theft and fraud.

A complaint regarding the fraudulent use of a Social Security number and the fraudulent use of a Nevada driver’s license led to Jones’ arrest, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) said.

According to the site, Jones once worked as a commodities broker at the Chicago Board of Trade, the department said, but in 1979 he went missing, and his disappearance was labeled suspicious. Gambling debts and possible organized crime affiliations led police to believe foul play might have been involved.

The Connecticut Better Business Bureau is warning parents to be on the lookout for signs that point to their child’s identity being compromised or stolen.

In a chilling development in the realm of identity theft, hundreds of unscrupulous businesses are illegally establishing lines of credit by finding and selling what appear to be inactive Social Security numbers online. However, most of them are reportedly assigned to children under the age of 18. The misuse of this information may lead to significant debts for children, that in some cases, may take years or decades, or ultimately be impossible to pay off.

Last year alone, 8.1 million adult Americans became victims of ID theft, resulting in the loss of $37 billion, according to a 2011 report from Javelin Strategy and Research. A former JPMorgan Chase & Co. business banker pleaded guilty to using other people’s identities to steal more than $1.1 million from the bank and its customers, the Manhattan district attorney said.

Hao “Howie” Wang, 28, of Newark, New Jersey, pleaded guilty today in New York state Supreme Court to grand larceny, identity theft, falsifying business records, forgery and scheme to defraud, the office of District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said in a statement.

“The defendant took advantage of his access to the confidential files and accounts of customers who entrusted their money to JPMorgan Chase & Co.,” Vance said in the statement.

In one instance, prosecutors said, he used the identity of a person without his knowledge or authorization to obtain a $100,000 loan from New York-based JPMorgan. Wang created fake bank documents in the name of the victim, who wasn’t a JPMorgan Chase customer, making it seem as if the person had opened the account and applied for the loan, according to the statement...more…

A West Bloomfield man thought that his friends and family were helping him celebrate his 50th birthday by mailing him a new Apple Macbook Pro laptop computer from California on June 7. Instead he fell victim to identity theft, according to West Bloomfield Police Lt. Mike Turner.

After friends and family denied sending the man his new computer, he received a letter from e-commerce business website Paypal July 17 telling him that his account was delinquent by several thousand dollars for a new computer, Turner said.

Having never used PayPal, he reported the incident to police, claiming that the only way that someone could have accessed the information required to use PayPal would have been to hack his man’s wireless internet access, which is not protected by a firewall.
